St. Joseph's College of Commerce (SJCC) is a Jesuit-run college affiliated with Bengaluru City University. It is self-contained and has its own examination and recognition system. The college dates back to 1882, when the Missions Etrangères de Paris founded St Joseph's European High School.The Jesuits took over its operations in 1937, and the Department of Commerce was established in 1949. St. Joseph's College was partitioned in 1972, with the College of Arts and Sciences being more and more self sufficient and the College of Commerce remaining under the administration of the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society. St Joseph's College of Commerce (SJCC) and St Joseph's College of Business Administration (SJCBA) relocated to 163, Brigade Road, and St Joseph's Evening College has become an independent institution.

SJCBA began offering a two-year, full-time Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in 1996, with approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India. The pre-university portions of St. Joseph's College of Arts & Science and St. Joseph's College of Commerce were combined into one junior college, St. Joseph's Pre-University College, by order of the Karnataka government. SJCBA signed an agreement in 2014 to collaborate with the global body of professional accountants ACCA to offer a joint BCom program.

CAMPUS & Infrastructure

St. Joseph's College is known for producing responsible citizens who work to improve society. College associations are critical in bringing out student talent. All students are encouraged to join and participate actively in the college's various associations. Currently, the college has 52 associations that cater to a wide range of interests ranging from academics to national and international art forms. These organisations cover every discipline and are active all year with talks, seminars, workshops, and other activities.

  • Classrooms: The college has cutting-edge classrooms equipped with smart boards and projectors. It promotes the need to integrate education with cutting-edge technology. ICT is available in all of the College's classrooms. The classrooms have been designed to maximise natural light and air circulation. Students and faculty members are provided with comfortable seating arrangements. With an increasing number of students enrolling in college, the infrastructure is constantly expanding. In the last five years, seventeen large classrooms have been built. 

  • Computer Lab: On the first floor of the college building, there are two well-equipped computer labs. The lab is fully air conditioned (six units with a capacity of two tons each) and has the infrastructure to house 160 computer systems. All computers have special electrification with UPS power backup. To meet the unforeseeable, fire extinguisher equipment is also provided. Both labs are outfitted with two IBM servers, each with 160 nodes connected via Local Area Network and interconnected with OFC internet connections via Cyberoam Firewall. The lab also offers CCTV Surveillance Monitoring System, College Digital ID Card Printing Machine, Audio Visual Setup, Scanning and Printing, and other services.

  • Auditorium/ Hall: The college has two auditoriums to accommodate the needs of various events and programs. In addition to inter-class cultural activities, the college hosts a calendar of events and programs in the auditorium. The college has also hosted a number of nationally recognized seminars and occurrences. The conference hall was constructed to house delegates during national seminars and events, as well as foreign exchange students. It is also used to hold faculty gatherings and is useful during the admissions process. An overhead projector and other audio-visual aids are accessible in the hall. It has good acoustics, a green room, a basement, and all the demand - response points. There are also four Seminar Halls in the Auditorium Complex. Thus every seminar hall can accommodate several hundred people. Seminar halls are available in a variety of sizes and seating configurations, depending on the needs of the event. All four halls have ICT capabilities, as well as a small dais for conducting programmes.

  • Wi-Fi: The campus is fully equipped with a Wi-Fi network that allows students to access internet resources.

  • Cafeteria: SJCC's canteen is well-known for its delectable meals and lip-smacking sacks. It is a haven for students to relax after a long day of classes. To cater to the diverse students from across the country, a variety of cuisines and delectable dishes are served. In addition, the cafeteria has two vending machines in which students can purchase treats for their occasional trips. Mid-day meals are provided in the canteen for students who are eligible for scheme benefits provided by the college.

  • Library: This College Library is one of Bengaluru's oldest private government-aided autonomous degree college libraries. It is one of the college libraries that is well-stocked. It subscribes to 77 national and international journals, periodicals/magazines, and fifteen daily newspapers on a regular basis. The library has over 30,000 titles and 50 national and international journals. Both students and faculty members can get their hands on the books. Online catalogues such as Delnet, N-List, Capitaline, and digital library are also available at the library. It serves over 7,965 undergraduate, postgraduate, and research level staff and students. The library is fully automated, has a large reading room, and can accommodate 250 readers at any given time. Since its inception in 1972, the Library has been an integral part of the institution. The Library supports the College's teaching, learning, and research activities by disseminating knowledge and providing modern services to the academic community. Its housekeeping operations are fully automated using Easy Lib software.

SJCC Library provides a Plagiarism Checking Service to registered users via a 'Urkund' tool. URKUND is a completely automated plagiarism detection system that is being used successfully at universities and university colleges in India.

Urkund is a UGC-recommended online plagiarism prevention tool that allows researchers to compare their content to web content to ensure the work is original before submission. This tool is licensed to the library.

Fathers, faculty members, research scholars, students, and support staff of the College are eligible to join the Library. Outside research scholars, eminent members of society, retired faculty and staff members, and alumni members of the College are also eligible for membership, subject to College authority approval.

  • AV Room: The institution has five large Audio-Visual (AV) rooms outfitted with cutting-edge audio-visual technology. Each AV room has a different seating capacity. Reservations are required to use an AV room. MIB students have full access to these AV rooms for subject conferences and to make the most of these amenities.

  • Sports: The available sports categories are, Football, Basketball, Cricket, Table tennis, Hockey, Throwball, Gym in respect.

  • Hostels: The St Thomas boys hostel is located on the SJCC campus. The college administration runs the hostel and has first-rate infrastructure, amenities, and food. There is also paid guest housing available outside of campus for both male and female students. The College Hostel has a magnificently designed hostel for men with all necessary boarding and recreational amenities. The hostel has its own Canteen where students can get healthy and sanitary food. The Canteen operates on a cooperative basis. The hostel has 120 single rooms and four large halls, one of which was a prayer hall. Two of these halls were later converted into cubicles, bringing the total number of available rooms to 188. Currently, the hostel can only accommodate 118 students.

Spacious common rooms are available in the hostel for constructive activities such as indoor games, discussions, and recreation. Indoor games such as carrom, chess, and table tennis are available to hostellers. The hostel's sports committee provides the sports equipment. The hostel has access to a badminton court, basketball courts, volleyball courts, cricket and football grounds, as well as other indoor game facilities.

Secretaries to the Students' Council are elected by Hostellers in a fair voting process. Various committees, such as cultural, sports, mess, maintenance, and prayer hall activities, have been formed to provide opportunities for their overall development during their stay in the hostel. These committees are in charge of organising all of the hostel's events.

In the year 1999, this college established its placement cell. Every year, many top companies come to this college to recruit students. This college's primary recruiting partners include Deloitte, Alambase,Almabase,Bayside Media Pvt. Ltd, First American, Decathlon, HSBC Bank, and Google. Furthermore, 190 students were enrolled in the placement cell, with 166 of them being hired. The average CTC offered to students ranged from Rs 2,75,000 to 3,45,000, with the highest salary package being around Rs 13,90,000. Students were offered excellent positions in finance, marketing, human resources, and public relations. Scholarship Selection Process:

SJCC provides financial assistance to deserving students. Scholarships are also available to students who excel in various sports and extracurricular activities. This college also has an EY Scholarship Program, which awards a Rs 1,000,000 scholarship and an 8-week internship to the scholar with both the best business ideas. This grant program is overseen by the college's placement cell.

Internships are an important part of the college curriculum, so every BCom and BBA student must enrol in a six-week internship programme with any organisation. These internships are intended to assist students improve their professional skill sets. In addition, the college holds a viva-voce to put the students' internship skills to the test. Aside from that, the institute encourages students to intern with various non-profit organisations in the care sector. CARE, Akshaypatra, and Bosco are among the non-governmental organisations where students have interned. This college's BCom and Tourism Departments collaborated with a leading NGO called U&I. This collaboration enabled first-year students to participate in the social intern program of the NGO.

    • SJC Unnat Bharath Abhiyan: As part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Government of India Project of Adopting Villages, 22 students from the Social Work Department conducted surveys in Ankel.

    • Best College Honor: St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Bangalore was named Karnataka's Best College in Leading Infrastructure, Decent Education, and Placements at an award ceremony held on November 27th, 2020 at the Taj West End.

    • WACC Office Bearers collaborated with the Rotaract Club of BMSIT to emcee a Sapling Drive in Doddaballapur. 64 saplings were planted by students.
