The College of Veterinary Science (CoVS) at Khanapara, Guwahati is a constituent college of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) — the premier agriculture and veterinary university in NE India. Established in 1948, it is the oldest and most prestigious veterinary institution in Northeast India, approved by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and the University Grants Commission (UGC).

History
Historical Milestones of CoVS Guwahati
1948
Founded as the first veterinary college in NE India. Initial intake: 33 students for BVSc & AH
1960
Moved to Khanapara (current location). Intake increased to 65 students. Duration extended to 5 years, eligibility upgraded to Higher Secondary level
1969
Became constituent of AAU upon establishment of Assam Agricultural University. Adopted Trimester System and introduced Postgraduate programs in 5 disciplines
1977
Transitioned to Semester System. Intake increased to 90 students
1985
Intake raised to 150 students. 12 of 14 departments now offering PhD programs
1995
Adopted VCI academic regulations and prescribed syllabus for BVSc & AH (5.5 year program)
2024
AAU-VET CET (Computer-Based) introduced as primary admission route, conducted across multiple NE India centres

FAQs — BVSc Admission at AAU Guwahati
NEET is NOT required for BVSc & AH at AAU Guwahati. Admission is through the AAU Veterinary Entrance Test (AAU-VET) — a computer-based test in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (160 MCQs, 160 marks, 2 hours). For the ICAR All India Quota seats, admission is through the separate ICAR entrance process. Neither requires NEET UG.
