The oldest and largest government medical college in Northeast India, established in 1972 and originally set up under the North Eastern Council, now run by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Affiliated with Manipur University and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), RIMS offers 125 MBBS seats annually along with a wide range of MD/MS postgraduate programmes. The attached RIMS Hospital runs 300+ beds providing round-the-clock patient care and clinical training. Admission is through NEET-UG, with 15% seats under All India Quota (via MCC) and 85% under State Quota.
Established in 2010, JNIMS is the second government medical college in the state, offering both MBBS and BDS (a dental college was added in 2017). Approved by NMC and comprising 28 departments, the institute has an annual MBBS intake of 100 seats and 85 seats reserved under the State Quota. Facilities include a computer lab, hostels, library and modern diagnostic equipment. PG courses (MD/MS) with a total course fee of around βΉ1,00,000 are also offered.
The third government medical college in Manipur, set up to expand medical seats and improve healthcare access in Southern Manipur. Affiliated with Manipur University and approved by the National Medical Commission, it follows the same low government fee structure as RIMS and JNIMS and admits students purely through NEET-UG State Quota and AIQ counselling. As a newer institution, it is steadily building out clinical infrastructure and faculty strength.
Manipur’s first and only private medical college, inaugurated under the Shija Hospitals group β a NABH-accredited tertiary care institution with advanced ICU, cardiac care, oncology and plastic surgery departments. Students get MBBS clinical exposure directly within a functioning multi-speciality hospital environment. Admission is via NEET-UG followed by Manipur NEET-UG Counselling conducted by the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur, with 150 MBBS seats sanctioned.
