FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions — BDS Colleges in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh has over 20 DCI-recognised BDS colleges including 1 government dental college (Vijayawada) and 19+ private dental colleges spread across Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Tirupati, East Godavari, West Godavari, and Krishna districts. Total BDS seats in AP are approximately 2,000+ per year across all colleges.

Almost all dental colleges in Andhra Pradesh are affiliated to Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada (also known as NTR Health University or NTRUHS). One exception is Anil Neerukonda Institute of Dental Sciences (ANIDS) in Visakhapatnam, which is affiliated to Andhra University. NTR University is the designated health sciences university of Andhra Pradesh.

Private BDS fees in Andhra Pradesh typically range from ₹15 lakhs to ₹45 lakhs for the full 5-year program. State quota seats through AP NEET counselling are available at regulated fees (₹15–25L); management quota fees are higher (₹25–45L). Government Dental College Vijayawada charges just ₹2–4 lakhs total for government quota students. Fees are regulated by the AP FRC (Fees Regulatory Committee) — always verify the FRC-approved fee structure before payment.

For Government Dental College Vijayawada, general category students typically need 500–530+ NEET marks for state quota. For reputed private colleges like SIBAR and Vishnu Dental, state quota seats typically require 400–480+. Management quota seats in private dental colleges are generally available with 300–400 NEET marks. Cutoffs vary each year — always check the official AP NEET counselling authority (DROA) for the latest cutoff data.

Yes — after completing BDS and internship, graduates must register with the Andhra Pradesh State Dental Council. Once registered, they can legally open and operate a dental clinic in AP. Many BDS graduates from AP open independent clinics within 2–3 years of graduation, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities where dental specialist access is limited. AP’s dental penetration rate is still relatively low, creating significant private practice opportunity.

BDS admissions in AP follow the same NEET counselling process as MBBS: (1) Qualify NEET-UG; (2) Register for AP state counselling through the DROA AP (Directorate of Research & Admissions, AP) portal; (3) Choose BDS as a program preference along with college and location choices; (4) Attend AP NEET BDS counselling rounds (typically 2–3 rounds); (5) Management quota: apply directly to the dental college after state counselling rounds. The AP Fees Regulatory Committee governs fee structures at all stages.
