Admission is largely merit-based on qualifying academic scores, and the college has a long-standing reputation for producing lawyers who now practice in the Meghalaya High Court and across the Northeast. A solid, budget-friendly choice for students prioritising a traditional legal education over a modern campus.

MIT University Shillong is a private university offering the BA LLB (Hons) integrated degree with modern classroom and moot-court infrastructure. Admission is based on CLAT scores or the university’s own merit process. As one of Meghalaya’s newer private law schools, it markets itself on campus facilities and faculty strength, though fees are considerably higher than the government options in the state.

The School of Law & Research at University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) is located in Ri-Bhoi District, a short distance from Guwahati and Shillong. It offers both the 5-year BA LLB (Hons) and the 3-year LLB, with admission through an institutional entrance test and personal interview. Fee packages vary by programme, and the campus sits within a larger multi-disciplinary private university setup.

Mahatma Gandhi University at Tura is the only law option located in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills region, offering the BA LLB (Hons) integrated programme on a merit basis. Its fees sit in the mid-range for private colleges in the state, and it’s a practical choice for students from West/South Garo Hills districts who prefer not to relocate to Shillong or Ri-Bhoi for their legal education.

CMJ University in Shillong is the most budget-friendly private law option in Meghalaya, offering the B.Com LLB and BA LLB programmes at roughly ₹60,000 per year. It’s a reasonable fallback for students who don’t clear CLAT/CUET cutoffs for the government options but still want an affordable integrated law degree without leaving the state.
