There are colleges that offer a 4-year B.Sc. Course in Nursing, but P.B.B.Sc. is a viable alternative. P.B.B.Sc. in Nursing is for students who have completed a diploma in Nursing (General Nursing and Midwifery).

The GNM course is 3 years long (+6 months internship) and doing another 4-year B.Sc Nursing is not considered feasible. Thus, to enable diploma holders to get a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, many institutes offer the P.B.B.Sc. In Nursing programme.

P.B.B.Sc. In Nursing touches upon all the essential principles of nursing. It helps strengthen the fundamentals and familiarizes the students with different nursing activities and routine procedures.

The programme deals with topics such as Nutrition, dietetics, nursing administration, medical and surgical nursing, maternal nursing, child health nursing, sociology, mental health nursing, microbiology, psychology, etc.

As mentioned earlier, colleges even offer a 4-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing, which is eligible for 10+2 candidates.

Candidates who have completed the GNM course are advised to take up the P.B.B.Sc. In Nursing.

Post Basic Bachelor of Science (P.B.B.Sc.) in Nursing Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must have completed 10+2 (Science, Arts, Commerce)
Candidate must have a diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)
2 years of experience as a registered nurse
The candidate must be a registered nurse and should not be older than 48 years old
Medical fitness and fluent English communications skills are also mandatory

Post Basic Bachelor of Science (P.B.B.Sc.) in Nursing Admission Process

First things first – shortlist colleges that match your criteria. The measuring sticks should be fees, location, campus life and opportunities to grow, the academic reputation of the college and placement services.

The average course fee for the P.B.B.Sc. in nursing course ranges between Rs. 50,000 – 70,000 in Bangalore colleges. Private colleges in other parts of India can charge as high as Rs. 1.2 – 1.5 lakhs per year.

However, if you wish to study in Bangalore, keeping around Rs. 1.4 lakhs for the entire course should be sufficient enough.

Colleges provide hostel services at reasonable rates. If you wish to live on your own, living in PGs can cost you around Rs, 5,000 per month.
